Dinner with the In Laws
I'm cooking for my in-laws tonite. We've invited them over to celebrate my FIL's birthday. I'm still not sure what to cook. MrNordin is out since 7 o'clock this morning ~ ada Board meeting at 9am, katanya. On a Saturday?! Crazy!
My MIL is a fussy eater. She doesn't eat chicken, doesn't take anything with cuka, and she's a damn good cook. Becoz of that, I'm terribly worried. Last night when MrNordin spoke to her, I could hear her asking, "What's cooking?" Orang ajak datang rumah, tak payah lah tanya apa yang nak dihidangkan, betul tak? No... she'd ask and make sure everyone's favourite dish is catered for. I diam je.
I'm thinking nasi tomato, and ayam masak merah. But MrNordin tak berapa suka ayam masak merah agaknya, that's why he asked me to buat ayam goreng saja (Ayam goreng? So tak challenging!). Perhaps I'll try Ms Hart's ayam bali, since ramai orang dah try her recipe and they said it's good. Plus it looks quite easy. I think I'll do that.
Then I'm gonna make dalcha to go with the nasi tomato. MrNordin will cook the daging when he gets home (I tak pandai masak daging). For extra, I'm gonna make some shepherd's pie. Then beli kek, siap. Oh yes, my maid is busy cleaning the house coz my MIL likes to do spot check.
I'd better go to the supermarket now. Wish me luck, people!

Nape ye,MIL sume perangai same,cuma My MIL tu tak fussy sangat pasal makan,tapi bab bab suka buat spot check I rimas sangat laa. Suka hati kita la,rumah kita,anak dia pun tak komplen. Ni bila datang jer ,selak sana selak sini..nasib baik tak selak dalam kain kita! One more thig I tak berapa gemar kat My MIL ni,apa yang kita beli,semua dia nak. Hissh!
Does MIL take "krup-krap"? Keropok with the nasi tomato would be nice. At least no need to cakap banyak-banyak coz busy meng-krukkrap :)
I did that one time and it worked on me. But I got a mind blowing keropok ikang Parang from KT. Never mind if it didn't quite go with the recipe but it helped with the pok pek and we had a peaceful meal.

Your MIL tu allergic to cuka or memang tak suka cuka? I'm asking coz that ayam bali guna cuka daa...
Kalau allergic, your salawat time kacau tu kena triple! Kena baca kuat kuat macam orang azan, so that bila dia ngap ayam bali tu dia tak tumbang dari kerusi makan tu. Tak pun you bagi tau jer dia..its a disclaimer on you la kira nyer..
Kalau dia saja tak suka, buat diam jer..sebab rasa cuka tu tak ketara pun dalam ayam tu. Kalau dia puji2 lepas perut kenyang baru u cakap, 'saya letak cuka tadi 2 senduk' - then smile lebar lebar...:)
p/s Sorry Ms Hart, potong laluan you pulak nak explain pasal cuka kat ayam bali ni.
BJ, good luck with the cooking. Susah-susah beli aje! Kat Malaysia ramai makcik2 tepi jalan tu masak lauk sedap2. Don't worry too much lah! Niat tu dah bagus lantak lah apa your MIL nak fikir.
Nasi tomato sounds nice. Shepherd's Pie will provide the alternative. So go ahead with that menu. Tambah sambal sotong sikit (for 'heat') pun ok gak.
now off i go again clearing my kitchen cabinets of those darn lipas and cicaks!

Mine is fussy but her mulut tak bising. Klu the food sedap I msk dia mkn & tambah.. klu tak berkenan.. dia usik pun tidak. But one thing I always make sure, if she's dining w us, nasi kena betul sukat babe. Her exact words.."Klu nasi lembik tak lalu nak telan.." But we loveeee nasi lembik. My helper klu tgk nasi kat rumah I masak tu kering mesti ckp.." Ibu Klang mahu datang buk?" Hahaha!
