Dinner with the In Laws (Update)

The dinner went well. For the first time, I slogged in the kitchen from morning til evening to cook the meal since my husband came home very late. Hentam je lah. Nasi tomato, ayam bali, dalcha, shepherd's pie.

Whenever I cook at home, MrNordin would do the final tasting or the quality control, so to speak. This is because, his taste bud is so much better than mine. I'd cook the pot, he'd taste it and make the final adjustments. Tambah brown sugar lah, cili api lah, this and that, in the end, baru kena rasanya.

This is what happened yesterday. He came home at 7pm, I forced him to masuk dapur and asked him to rasa all the dishes I made. Then he made the adjustments. Barulah ayam bali I & dalcha ada kick! My FIL said, "Kalau macam nilah Din, engkau memang boleh bukak restaurant!" Hee.. hee...

Tapi sorry, gambar tak sempat ambik because I was busy entertaining the guests. My MIL didn't complain much, so I guess it was alright. She brought me some kuih tart.

Here are some pictures during the cake cutting. I got the birthday boy a durian cake. It was a hit!

Cheers!

Looking at the age on the cake, melayang pikir mcm mana rupa I when the time comes / will I still be around at that age / will my hubby still around/ ada tak nama Datin dpn nama I / gambar b'day I masuk M Tatler ke @ obituary dlm The Star/ ?...the list goes on....

Wah not bad not bad, congrats dear. Your MIL will have a different opinion of you from now on. Actually, appearance wise, your MIL looks just like other practical mums.

Good job MrsN! Thumbs up to you (and MrN too)...

I'm sure from now on, your IL will lunch and dine at your place more often.. :) Err...bagus ke tak bagus tu?

Madam,

My MIL has always had the perception that her son memang terror masak and her DIL ni tak berapa sangat. And I'm sure last night, she taught her son yang masak semua. Don't care lah... I knew deep down, I was the one who did it all.

Menantu mithali? Tak de mana nya..

Principal,

You can get the durian cake from Secret's Recipe.

I also don't know if i'll be celebrating my 73rd birthday... :(

Ezza,

Memang berpeluh! I don't know how you boleh masak hari2 untuk ramai orang...

Budak kecik tu yang trying to do a "Peace" sign with his fingers. Tapi tak boleh (dia cuma tunjuk satu jari je as 'peace'). That's why terpejam2 mata tu...
MrsNordin said…
kak teh,

It was a success, I think..

TM,

I don't know if she'll have a change of mind about it. You can never tell because she is short on praises.

Waterlily.

They used to come to our house every weekend dulu masa I mula2 kawin. And stayed until 1-2 am every time. Tak larat betul! This is the first time we invited them over for proper dinner in a long time. I dah kurang kederat nak masak memasak ni after Nizzar.

Mrs N,

Good job, passed the test with flying colours yah!! Everyone looked delighted and I bet you can now sit back and relax.

Bet you looking forward to their next visit?? Chance to further impress them with your hidden culinary skills. Heh...heh...juz teasin!! I know how it feels when "inspector kesihatan" is in the house.

MrsN,

congratulations! You did it very well. I don't I can handle it that well!

And Nizzar dlm gambar ramai2 tu, so cheeky! Siap peace signal lagi!

BTW, kenapa ek susah sgt nk post comment at your blog? asyik "connection time-out" je..
MrsNordin said…
Kay,

I don't mind them coming, but not to cook a storm like that! I suppose with cooking, you have to do it often, baru tak penat sangat. Ini terkial-kial berapa biji bawang, berapa banyak cili, bila nak masuk santan... asyik nak kena refer to resipi book. Mana tak penat!
MrsNordin said…
AuntieYan,

The next time, will be a long time. Unless my husband volunteer to cook (which he'd normally do willingly)
MrsNordin said…
Busymum,

I don't know what's the problem and I don't know if others also face the same problem. Sorry about that.

On Nizzar, we've taught him to do the peace sign many times, but every time, cuma keluar satu jari je. He cannot do that "V" sign! Not yet, maybe.. :)

Mrs N,

First of all, my apologies for thinking that you didn't have a FIL anymore..

Hmm..guess what,I also had guests (family) on Saturday. I made nasi tomato, ayam masak merah, ayam goreng, korma daging, acar timun, sambal sotong and nasi putih and spaghetti bolognese, so macam similar je menu kita.

And because my guests were from lunch right through tea and dinner, I took leave on friday just to potong2, marinate2, blend cili make deserts etc. Sebab kita tak biasa masak banyak2 tu yg rasa letih..tapi seronok bila tengok guests makan semua kan.

Busybody

Well done, BJ! You must have felt really good and satisfied that night tengok everybody enjoying the food that you prepared! Mission accomplished :)

It's difficult enough to cook for a lot of people, but it's even more difficult to cook for the in-laws, kan? But, you did very well indeed :)

P/S : Your MIL nampak "harmless" la, BJ :)
MrsNordin said…
Busybody,

Wah.. siap ambil leave lagi! I didn't bother. I think great minds think alike, that's why the food served was almost similar! Well done!
MrsNordin said…
Aida,

Thanks!

Ms hart,

We didn't know what your ayam bali supposed to taste like, but I think it turned out well. My FIL tanya, "Engkau pego Bali yang dapat resipi ni, ya Yati?" Hee... hee... i senyum saja.
MrsNordin said…
Kmar,

Tambah sayang? Itu sudah semestinya!! Hee... hee....
MrsNordin said…
Jabishah,

Thanks! They all looked happy because they loved taking photos! I suppose the food also helped lah, kan?
MrsNordin said…
Shana,

Harmless, you think? She is ~ kalau you bukan menantu dia! Actually, she's ok... more manageable these days.

Well done MrsN - kalau tak komplen tu dah kira baguslah tu. When birthday boy said boleh bukak restauran - that is the ultimate compliment!
MrsNordin said…
Farizah,

Yeah... opening a restaurant is one of our plans for retirement. But, I'm definitely not going to do the cooking. I'll look after the cash register only! :)
