Nak Susu? Tak Nak!
The little boy has lost interest in milk. He refused to drink it even though I’ve bought so many different brands for him to try. His regular milk is Isomil , it’s soy-based. I thought he might have outgrown the taste and now want something else. So I bought Pediasure, chocolate flavor, since he seemed to love drinking that chocolate milk from the carton. He refused that too.
Previously, I’ve tried so many different brands for him. Reason being, milk is getting more expensive and so I thought, bagi budak ni minum susu yang murah2 je dah lah since he’s already eating normal food. But he refused ~ still want his Isomil. Fine. Although the price now is about RM54 per tin, terpaksalah berkorban. Satu tin habis seminggu (or less). So in a month, I’d have to spend RM220 on his milk alone. Tak termasuk pampers lagi. Hish... mahal betul lah nak raise a child these days!
But since last Saturday, this boy has refused his milk. Everytime buat susu, he’d just take a sip and said, “Tak nak.” I thought it was the bottle teats ~ perhaps the flow was too slow for him until he had to bite it off to make the hole bigger (he likes to gigit his puting botol susu). I pun pegi lah mencari puting botol yang baru. Bawak balik, still dia tak nak minum susu.
Why is that so? Is he weaning off milk? Tak kan lah kut. He’s only 2years 4 months old. Makan pun, kadang2 nak, kadang2 tak nak. Risau I! I get very worried over his unpredictable eating pattern. Sometimes, makan nasi boleh habis dua mangkuk. Sometimes, langsung tak nak makan. Kekadang tu, the whole day tak makan apa2. Asyik minum air je kerja nya (and nak air yang ada color and cold!)
Can anyone tell me what’s wrong with him? It all started after dia demam 2-3 hari minggu lepas. After that, terus tak nak susu. Sigh...

But I definitely ingat that even then we felt the pinch nak beli susu and pampers for the BOTH of them! Nasib baik you ada sorang aje. If not, you'd hv to think twice before spending on kasut baru tiap2 bulan! :)
And Nizzar looks so adorable in the pic! Eeee..nak cubit pipi rasanya. Give him kisses from me,ok.
I know... you will be of no help.
Ya lah, when it comes to toddlers, memanglah sorang je. Tapi yang 3 orang lagi tu, kena juga belikan barang2.
But I like to buy his shoes lah. I don't mind buying them every month. I suppose, that's becoz both his parents love buying shoes as well! Yeay!
It's ok, I don't expect you to remember either...
Now you know susu is expensive. Ada yang sampai RM85 setin pun ada. Entah anak sapa lah minum susu mahal macam tu...
There are cheaper ones, around RM20+ but my boy tak nak minum susu lain. I've tried, but he refused them. In the end, we all yang habiskan susu dia! Hee.. hee..
If he wants to stop susu, let him. And if he likes susu in the carton bagi ajer... He's eating solids and he does not depend on susu totally. Don't be afraid that he's not getting nutrition. But please avoid sugary and carbonated drink (ehem from the picture, though dia pegang I hope he's not drinking those, YET at least).
He looks healthy. I on the other hand have been trying to get my daughter to stop susu, she's overweight but then Atok and Nenek are worried that she does not get enough (urrgghhhh) so she gets her daily fix at rumah Atok n Nenek (serves me right for living close to my parents) susah nak instil discipline when the grandparents pamper them like crazy.
If u are still worried about him, go see a pediatrician and get advise from them. But I know most of them will say the same.
Aida - saves on pampers on one child and milk on the other ehhehe (one potty trained already and the other bfed)
Comel betul budak ni. Actually, my pediatrician told me I could give my son regular milk (not fomula) after he turned one. I think once Nizarr got the taste of the sweet colored drinks, it's goodbye milk. SO that's probably what it is :-) Have you talk to his ped?
Ya I agree with Anon 11.15. If he wants to stop milk, let him. I think (if my memory serves me well) my kids semua dah tak nak formula when they are about 2 years. Then I bagi saja Milo (bancuh dgn evaporated milk). They take Milo in a bottle until about 4-5 years kot.
Maybe you try bagi dia in a sippy cup. Is he rejecting the susu or the bottle?
I remember lamenting the harga susu and pampers! We are forever memborong diapers from Toys r Us. Sebab selalu dapat coupon, haha.
Good luck with Nizzar!
maybe you should limit him from the coloured and cold drinks...
about the susu, maybe it's just a phase, why dont you try giving milk from a beaker instead?
yani
Akak harap jangan la you marah ye akak berceramah kat sini. Saja nak tolong.
Ye, dia dah ready nak wean off susu kot. Rata-rata lepas setahun tak yah minum susu botol pun dah OK.
Kalau kat UK, takde pun jual formula for over 2 years old. Cuma kat Asia ni lah ada banyak formula milk until 6.
Jangan khuatir Nizzar is not getting the right vitamins. He looks healthy and active.
Nasib baik dia dah ready to wean off the bottle. kalau tunggu lama2, makin susah nak wean off
Ya lah... I'm the guilty one. Sometimes I let him drink 100 Plus. Now asyik nak air yang ada color & manis je. Paling suka Yakult (that yogurt drink)and ice cream.
Perhaps I should not let him drink all this colored drink anymore. It's hard coz he'll be throwing his tantrums, but I'll surely try.
Ezza, don't worry.. I truly appreciate your advise. Bila dengar mak2 bagi nasihat ni, baru lah tau apa yang salah silap nya.
See... I'm a bad mother, kan? I let my child eat all this junk food and unhealthy drinks. Now menyesal...
Yakult is fine... ice cream is fine, but sugary gassy stuff no no dear.
No worries about giving them treats once a while, just have to be picky about them. I give my kids one piece of choc after dinner (after rice and veg), if no rice no chocolate. Yes, its bribery but that's the only way I can get them to eat veg, i'm ok with that.
Do not feel bad and u are NOT a bad mother. At this age u can start reasoning with him... if he throws a fit, let him... and u just senyap ajer (act as if it does not affect u, though its hard) cos its goes to show him that when he acts up, he does not deserve to get what he wants. He only gets what he wants he is nice and good... and in the amount which is tolerable. Should u want to give him coloured water, dilute it.
Long term BJ if he has less sugar highs and sugar lows, I think he'll have less tantrums la.
Good luck dear.
Aida.
Jangan rasa bersalah dik oii,ini biasa bagi ibu muda, akak dulu macam you jugak..lama lama banyak la pengalaman. At least kat sini boleh tanya sapa sapa without knowing who she is. Nizzar is so cute, selalu nya yang nakal ni cerdik. Dah terbukti dah. Tengok anak mata nya yang bulat dan hitam, akak tau satu hari nanti you will be proud of him. Tunggu je laa. Peluk cium untuk Nizzar.
My daughter is 7 months older than yours. Dia minum susu kotak biasa and stop taking the powder milk after 1 year old. Kalau dia tak nak juga susu, you can also substitute with other stuffs yang dia minat and get him eat more fruits or veges. A bit susah tapi worth a try.
Shasha tends to eat carrots EVERYDAY at the moment. Berkg carrot dalam fridge. In a few months, dia akan tukar ´minat´ makannya.
About pampers, you can try to teach him potty. You will know the right time bila dia dah boleh cakap ´pee-pee´ etc. Usually he will do it first, then baru bagi tahu. My boy learned his potty at the age of 2 years 2 months and my girl at the age of 2 years 4 months.
Your Nizzar looks so chubby, so cute.. rasa nak cubit-cubit!!! Mesti petah cakap ni!??
If he's taking normal milk, try giving those Vanilla or Honey flavoured milk. Wyeth is good. And so is Infagrow. I always change my children's milk after a few months.
And, stop those negative thinking MrsN. You are not a bad mother, if you are, you wont be worried sick about him weaning off milk too soon! Cheers and take care.
The paediatrics said by two memang dah boleh wean them off milk bottles. Nutrition wise our toddlers would gain more than enough from their well balanced diet. So kalau nizzar dah tak nak susu bottle - then save jugak the hefty cost of formula milk.
The problem with sugary treats are aplenty - most definitely they easily spoil their appetite and are addictive.
But like many out there, you and I are learning as we go through motherhood. What I really like about your blog is that you share your experiences and your friends banyak contribute nasihat and tips. So sama sama belajar from your readers.
Selamat berpuasa and keep the entries coming
Salam from FD & Co
I am a silent reader of ur blog.
Had the same prob with my son. When he was 3 yr old after having fever, he refuse any milk. Not even when we add Milo. No amount of bribery change his mind. Not even after the dad ugut to rotan him. Don't think the sweet stuff is the prob. Bcoz my son doesn't like to drink sweet stuff (fave drink is air kosong :)) n didn't eat junk food dat frequent.
The prob is he doesn't eat anythg else with calcium. Went to see d pediatrician, and was told that if he is healthy, not lethargic or has any other prob. It's ok.
Btw, ur nizzar is super cute!
Cuteeeenyaaa Nizar ni!!!
Ramai dah bagi nasihat & pendapat yang bernas..he...he...Akak dah lupa semua tu, anak dah beso-beso! :-)
Its my first time here and first time commenting.I have a 3 going to 4 year old boy and a toddler too.My eldest is 6.All boys.I can relate to your predicament. My second used to drink lots and lots of milk sampai debab.then he had flu and cough and suddenly he didn't want milk anymore.Tapi suddenly he wanted more and more milk after his taste buds return to normal. So, I guess its just a phase and also, your Nizzar is experimenting other things which is far more 'sedap' than his soy based milk.hehe..kalau kita pun sure kita choose gassy drinks over milk.I pun avoid gassy drinks for my household nowdays and just give in to their demands of yakult, vitagen and yg sewaktu dgnnya.
Oh and if you don't mind, nak promote my blog la..hehe..
Do visit for the latest collection in handbags, EAZY PEAZY Tudung and the likes!See you there!
Really appreciate your advise!
Yesterday when I got home, I told everyone that the boy will be banned from drinking gassy water from now on. And the house shall not stock up any gassy drink in the fridge either. Nadira said, "It's about time..."
And I also asked family members to co-operate, ie. when we dine out, don't order colored drinks. Just plain water so that the boy follows by drinking his water.
Well, it worked to some extent. We went out for berbuka semalam, and everyone just ordered plain water. So the boy pun minum air dia... Great! My maid said, he still doesnt't want milk but finished 3 bottles of water yesterday. I was so happy!
To the newcomers ~ "royalshopping arcade", "madre" and "FD&Co", thanks for dropping by and lending me some tips on this. At least now, I know what to do...
Have a great Friday and enjoy the weekend, everyone!
I am glad to be able give my 2 cents and happy that it's brought some help to you dear.
Hugs,
Aida
Am so glad it works! See, this is what I love about blogging. The sharing of ideas and experiences to make us much better persons.
p/s try and see if the hyperactivity was caused (in some ways) of his consuming the carbonated drinks. I think he will be less hyperactive after this.
Thank you!!
MA,
Without a doubt, I think the hyperactivity was caused by the sugar rush. I'll give it a week or two to see if the sugar withdrawal would make him less active. If not, memanglah budak tu tak lalu diam!
I drank COke all the way through pregnancy and my kids were virtually shooting out to the world by themselves - they are THAT hyperactive hahahahhaha
And jojo still nak milo dalam botol....at 6 ok! and baring kena raba raba lagi.
But you know sometimes, kids change..baru je you trauma abt something aleh aleh dia nak balik susu...haissshhhhh..
I should have had a blog when I was raising the kids in their babydom!
Ya lah! You should have! Then all of us new mothers can refer to it as a handbook. Very handy, ma..!
How's puasa so far?
