AIMST Kedah
Nadira has been offered to do Foundation Study at AIMST University in Kedah. What the h*** is this place? Does anyone know or have any inkling at all about this university?
From what I read in their website, it's a 1-year foundation course after which, the student will continue doing a 5-year Medical degree at the university. How credible is this university in churning doctors?
I have no clue...
Err... it looks like my daughter does not get the JPA scholarship to study abroad. They are only sponsoring her to do local.
I'm a little disappointed. We are looking at other options.

Yes aaa?? Why send there lah??
We are looking! We are looking!
Hv you considered other options? Maybe blessing in disguise??
What do you mean by "blessing in disguise"?
Yes, we shall look at these angles. We never thought about other options before coz we were quite certain she could get a good placing by JPA. Now, dah pening kepala!
This AIMST uni, i tak pernah dengar lah pulak..
What a let down!
For her standing, either do the A- Levels at the Yayasan UEM in Bukit Beruntong near Rawang or the IB; MARA has one centre in Banting. And these two foundation schools have churned out top notched grades with entry into the far more competitive medical schools.
I am sure she will perform in
either of these choices. From here it will be a stone's throw to the medical schools either in the UK (which includes Oxbridge and UCL) or Ireland and Canada.
We need to build up the quality factor in our community.Quantity tu dah ada dah.
And to Nadira, YES YOU CAN and NO YOU DON'T.

Let's hope there are some options coming her way.
Keeping my fingers crossed.
I sat for my Form 5 in 1977. I had one A1 and C's for the other seven subjects. Following this, I took 4 subjects for my A-Levels and obtained 2As,1B and 1C.
I was admitted to do medicine in the UK and graduated amongst the top 20 percent. I was never a bookworm. I had fun just as much as I studied.
With your kind of grades, you deserve better.
Go and get it.
This is the beginning of your journey.
But enjoy yourself too okay. And don't forget that you have a supportive and a loving family. This counts for your well-being.

Betul la tu MIC punye Uni, yg they all nak tiru TAR College MCA. U know what, location wise betul2 beside dusun durian my dad. But masa land acquisition dulu luckily tak termasuk skali ngan tanah dia, kalau tak berjuta-juta dollar mak demand he he he....
On 2nd thought, mesti la set2 tu will make sure that set2 they all dapat the best in everything kan??? So Nadira will get d blessing in disguise la. Good infra etc???
Neway, congrats to soon to be Dr Nadira
Another cheaper option is to do medicine in Alexandria, Egypt. Many Malaysian study medicine over there. I know the place is very nice.

It's not that easy to just go to Ireland. Kalau tak ada RM1 million in the bank, you can't afford to finance the course.
Russia ~ I think better here.
Quite hard lah now, bukan macam dulu senang2 boleh appeal. We've tried all those, but only got JPA. Only Mara & JPA sponsor students to do Medic. Others tak.
Two of her friends got to do A-Levels in Banting and KYUEM. But one, her mother not working and the other, mother not working, father dah retire. That's why they got it, I think.
All her non-Malay friends who scored straight A's semua tak dapat scholarships. It's very tough out there.
Kalau I jadi pegi Kedah this weekend, I'll give you a buzz, ok?
We're trying to appeal for Sunway/Monash. Still local. Overseas memang susah nak dapat. Kalau ada pun, India/Indon. Tak payah lah..
Some people are lucky and can pull strings like that. But we feel quite awkward to do that.
We're trying to get a better place for her.
Zaman dulu, memang senang nak dapat scholarships. There were not many students who wanted to do Medicine because it's a tough course.
But these days, students are all very clever. 75% of JPA applicants wanted to do Medicine. How to accommodate all of them? And it's very costly too. Medicine in Ireland would cost some RM1.5m in total. And this year, they are only sending 3 or 4 students to Dublin. That's all.
Without govt funding, we can't afford to help her realise her dream to become a doctor.
Thanks for sharing.
Thanks. She's quite resilient and positive about it.
Desert Rose,
Yes, I'd like to think that way about the place too. Eh, your dad's dusun durian is still there ke? If I pegi sana, boleh singgah!! Hee.. hee...
Kalau your dad punya land kena beli dulu, he would be a real "Jutawan Durian Runtuh"!!
I've been to Alexandria and I know it's a nice place. But Egypt is not an option for now.
Thanks anyway.
We also have pharmacy, twinning program with USM.
The first batch graduation was 2 yrs ago
