Shoe Lover

I woke up early today and it's drizzling outside. Ahh... bliss! So I decided against going back to sleep, make a cuppa coffee and lock myself in the study room. These are precious moments which must be utilized quickly!

My eldest daughter is going back to UiTM today. We did her registration yesterday (spent the whole day there!), and since it's a holiday today, she followed us home. MrN will be in KL this week (I'm glad!), but he'll go to JB on Friday for a short meeting.

I plan to re-organize the shoe store today. It’s an annual affair. The last time I did it was more than a year ago. As usual, yang mengemas sorang, yang menyelerakkan ramai!

We are shoe-people. We love shoes (who don’t?), my husband included. I think, he has more shoes than I do. In the store room, half of it is occupied by my husband’s shoes, a quarter by my shoes and another quarter by the girls’ shoes. There’s also MrsN No. 1’s old shoes, which we still keep on the rack, because they are still good shoes.

Her shoes are many, and expensive. That’s also another reason why they are still there. Unfortunately, her feet are one size bigger than mine. Some of the sandals are still wearable, but you know how leather shoes become hard over time, right? So they are quite uncomfortable.

The girls don’t really fancy wearing court shoes or high-heeled ones, preferring the more trending pumps. So MrsN No. 1 shoes are just there for display, taking up space for the rest of the other new shoes.

I don’t know what to do with them. Some dated back to the 80s coz people in this house has a habit of hoarding old stuff. The same with clothes. MrN still has the shirt which he wore when he went for his first honeymoon! And that was 20 years ago! And in the trunk, there are still several dresses which I believe was worn during the disco era of the 70s by MrsN#1 !

There are good and bad points to this. If you have storage space in the house, by all means, keep them. The fashion will come back. That’s why during our disco party last July, we didn’t buy any new outfit. We just used what we have. But if you don’t have space, then something has got to go.

I, for one, do not like to hoard. If I see any baju which I haven’t worn in more than a year, I’ll put it aside to give or throw away. This is because, I’ll be buying more clothes and if I don’t discard the old ones, mana nak letak?

My wardrobe is almost bursting at the seams. Every time my maid tried to hang the newly-ironed clothes, she’ll have difficulties trying to find space, resulting in them becoming crumpled all over again as the cupboard is overstuffed. Nak beli a bigger wardrobe, dah tak ada tempat nak letak. That’s my daily dilemma.

We thought of holding a jumble sale a couple of months ago to discard the old items, but it didn’t materialize (malas nak pikir masa tu). People say, what’s rubbish to you may be treasures of other people. So a jumble sale might be a good idea. Perhaps we’ll do it next year once we find the energy to dig and sort out all the stuff.

There are a lot, I’m telling you… really a lot. Ini belum termasuk barang budak2 lagi. Their clothes, toys, shoes. There are 5 big bundles stacked up ouside their bedroom door at the moment. Malas nak usik. Nak buang, sayang. So they are just there accumulating dust.

Last year, I gave away 3 big bundles of kids's shoes to the Indonesian workers at my office. Berebut dia orang! They were still good shoes, sometimes baru pakai sekali dua je. Kids outgrow their shoes very fast. Even Nizzar now, at 2.5 years old, has 8 pairs of shoes! Itu pun after 2, 3 rounds of giving away his old shoes to other people!

Looks like he's gonna become another shoe lover, huh? Just like his mum & dad...

BJ,

I've just cleared our top-floor room to convert into the girls' bedroom.

It used to be our hoarding place (9years you!!). So, you can imagine how stressed I've been sorting the stuff out. And yup - old shoes are abundance here, too, especially the kids'. Semua elok-elok lagi. Depan rumah I sekarang ni macam junkyard. Insya Allah, this weekend, we'll be distributing the old stuff around to a few orphanages.

mrs nordin,

why not just give to ophanages? They will appreciate it. Last time Rumah Solehah in Cheras; home to HIV children & their moms memang need toys & clothes badly but tak sure whether they still need these now.

MrsN,

The guys in my house were busy clearing the store room too. They found this that and everything. Asked me what to do with the old stuffs, told them to just bagi kat abang on the lorry sampah.

Giving to the orphanages is also a good idea as mentioned by Principal and Kak Ezza. I like starting a new year with more closet space to be filled up later :)

Mrs.N,

Not yet 3 but with 8 shoes? Itu yg ha can still fit? OK.. that's a lot!

You know, when it comes to hoarding place I hv not only one but 2 rooms. Hehehe! Mcm le besar sgt rumah... Not at my home larr.

1 is my room kat my mom's & another HB's kat his mom's. Both in klang valley so bila dtg rajin to unclutter, export je lah. But I shld start giving them to the orphanages jgklah.

MrsN,

Good suggestions from your readers. If you still want to keep the stuff, how about 1) Get an outside storage shed or 2) A rental storage place.

We too are doing the musical chairs with stuff in the closet. The good thing is , we have a good size attached garage (common in the US) with storage space in the rafters for our stuff. I would take stuff from the closet, and dump it in the garage. The garage is full of stuff, except for cars!

Yes, you can send to Rumah Solehah. I've been there several times becoz our Bank adopted them as part of our CSR "Living with HIV/AIDS". They are so unfortunate (bukan salah dia orang) and every weekend without fail, the Bank will arrange activities for them.

As for me, I will send everything bila balik kampung, baju, kasut etc and my FIL is ever willing to help us with distribution untuk yang betul2 memerlukan.

Mrs N, what a good start to a new year - I will have to do that soon. But di sini you have to pay people to get your rubbish.
It is really difficult to get rid of shoes..we always feel that we might just want to wear them again.

I agree - dota to Rumah Anak2 yatim.

MrsN,
Eh eh Funny. Must be spring cleaning season cos we cleared our store room too on cuti Maal Hijrah. Berbundut bundut sampah. Now my youngest dah besar, I dun have to hoard baby things anymore, so can give away, relief!

Your shoes store got Manolo Blahnik and Jimmy Choos tak? If ada yang nak give away, I raise my hand first.

BJ,

I pun selalu buat ´clearance´ once a year. Kalau tak buat begitu, there won´t be any space at home. I am not fancy with shoes but still have some quite expensive branded shoes.. eemm.. Selalunya I bawa balik ke Ipoh bagi kat my sedara mara. My hubby ´bising´ because there are a few pairs nicely kept in the box in the garage..he.he.he.. Dia kata, kalau nak beli kasut baru, kena pakai dulu kasut yang dalam box tu. Alamak... lecehnya.. he.he.he.. and he has a good point.

I banyak baju budak branded.. Burberry, Tommy, Elle, Gocco, Dolce .. etc.. semuanya I bagi kat another Malaysian family with child. Their rezeki.

Our new rules is bila beli satu baju, kena keluar satu baju... he.he.he..

Selamat ´berkemas´... !!

MrsN,

I wonder ya what is MrsN#1 shoe size? Mana lah tau, kot2 boleh dapat pesaka, hahaha!!

I used to be a shoe-craze once, and used to have shoes of all colors. My little charade aura was full of my shoes. bila sampai office baru pilih mana nak pakai.

Tapi sekarang no more. Ada satu dua je yg comfy. Sandals pun ada ada several but dok pakai yg sama je... so simple these days, hahaha!!

MrsN,

Ahh...shoes, I like... can never get enough of them. Kalau buleh, kucing pun I nak belikan kasut.. hehe..

Anyway... these still good but don't fit & no space to keep.....sounds like a good spark for a bloggers' charity jumble sale.

Whaddaya think?

Shana,

Yes, I read about your spring cleaning session. After dah clear tu, bestkan tengok tempat tu kemas saja...

9 years' of junk? That's a lot!
MrsNordin said…
Principal,

Thanks for the tip. I'll check out this Rumah Solehah. I've to really look what are the things that I can give to them. I've to be selective coz I don't these orphanages to become my dumping ground. That'll be really bad...
MrsNordin said…
Ezza,

I'll do that. Tapi rumah anak2 yatim ni kadang2 dah banyak orang bagi barang. I have to be selective in what i want to give them.

Some inconsiderate people just dump everything kat rumah anak2 yatim (kadang2 sampai seluar dalam terpakai pun diaorang bagi!) just becoz they want to get rid of their junks. I think that's very bad...
MrsNordin said…
Kay,

Bab "bagi kat abang sampah" tu I memang suka. Esp. toys. I hope you've cleared all your store rooms for the New Year!
MrsNordin said…
Jabishah,

You hoard barang kat rumah orang, lagi teruk! But at least, your house that berserabut, kan?

My MIL's house ada 3 store rooms that stock up my BIL's barang2. Banyak nak mampus! I'm just so itchy to clear up those rooms so we can convert it to a nice place to live...
MrsNordin said…
Farizah,

I would love to have an outside garage!

We have one right now, but it's all for storing the gardening tools and other DIY stuff. Tak boleh nak masuk apa lagi. We're even thinking about renovating this house to create more space for storage, but tunggu cukup budget dulu. Right now, can't afford it!
MrsNordin said…
Dada,

Thanks. This Rumah Solehah sounds special, I'd like to go and pay them a visit.

Dulu I used to give my old clothes to my aunties kat kampung. But my skirts and jackets for work tu, nak bagi kat siapa? Takkan aunty I nak pakai office attire kut..! Hee.. hee...
MrsNordin said…
Hi Mun,

Yes, we do have a baby gate but we're still using it to keep the little boy away from the kitchen. Try some of these second hand shops (which buy and sell stuff), they may have it. Sorry!
MrsNordin said…
Kak Teh,

Over here pun kena "bayar" orang untuk angkut sampah. Especially benda2 macam old furniture, tilam, broken chairs etc. Orang sampah bukan nak ambil. We have to rent a lorry to get rid of the junks!
MrsNordin said…
TM,

Manolo and Jimmy's tak ada. Bally and Ferragamo ada. Nak? Maybe a jumble sale is not a bad idea, huh?
MrsNordin said…
Kmar,

I like your rule: beli satu, keluar satu. That way, we won't be stocking up junks!

Baju Nizzar yang tak boleh pakai lagi, I bagi my maid to give away to her sedara whenever she goes back for the weekend. That's useful coz I realise I keep on buying new clothes for that little fella. Can't help it lah!
MrsNordin said…
Ms Hart,

Your princessangel is also a shoe lover, huh? Ke.. emak dia yang ajar...? Hee.. hee...
MrsNordin said…
Busymum,

I think she's a size 7.

Masa single dulu, I also keep several shoes in my car. Senang nak tukar tukar. But these days, I only keep 2 or 3 pairs for work, that's all.

Tapi azam tahun baru, no more impulse buying for shoes! (and this is hard to keep!)
MrsNordin said…
Ibu,

Blogger Charity Jumble Sale ~ sounds like a GREAT idea! Nanti I pikir2 kan, ok?

p/s Kucing pun nak pakai kasut? Hee.. hee... kalau ada, nanti I belikan unutk you, ya?
MrsNordin said…
Hi Nek!

Dah lama tak tengok Nek kat sini. Happy New Year to you too!!

Eh, Mimaland tu ada lagi ke? Dah jarang dengar, maybe nama dah tukar kut. Let me know the name if you remember, ok?

Cheers!
